Eros Philautia

Eros is an illustration, comics, and printmedia artist with an education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Their illustration work is rooted in surreal anatomy and personal relationship to the body through a transgender lens, as well as surreal expression of love for the self and queer intimacy.

"At the core of my artistic practice is the concept of dissection, and what it can mean to peel back and rearrange the layers of a body. The body of a narrative, rifling through what’s left of well-known tropes after they’ve been disassembled and rebuilt, or the body of a page through breaking composition, patterns, pulling apart established rules to unsettle the reader. The body of a print, carving into plates and gouging out precise and intricate lines in the detail of the grotesque, rendering them with nothing less then love and care, or emphasizing the presence of layers within a piece through overlapping color often bright enough to painful or difficult to look at and necessitating a deeper investigation into the forms."

"I treat the human body as God, and God as something to be torn apart."
